Grand Rapids Gold
Did you know Grand Rapids has its very own professional basketball team? In 2021 what had been known as the Grand Rapids Drive basketball team became a G League affiliate of the Denver Nuggets and rebranded to the Grand Rapids Gold. The Gold is part of the NBA G League, which focuses on player development and training and is a minor league for the NBA. For the 2023 season, the basketball team also changed where they were playing to play now play at Van Andel Area in central downtown Grand Rapids, MI. If you’re looking for a fun night Downtown, this is a great idea and another way to cheer on Grand Rapids sports!
Cathedral of Saint Andrew
The cathedral was completed in 1876 and has served as a place of worship for Catholics in Grand Rapids. It is an architectural marvel with beautiful stained-glass windows and soaring ceiling. The church holds numerous concerts such as Calvin Alumni Choir, Grand Rapids Symphony, and Grand Rapids Choir of Men and Boys.
In 2002, the current cathedral organs were installed by the famous pipe organ company Orgues Létourneau. Parishioners from the church volunteer with non-profits such as Westminster Food Pantry and Habitat for Humanity to benefit the community. The Cathedral of Saint Andrew is a stunning building and cultural icon of the city.
Grand Rapids Children’s Museum
The Grand Rapids Children’s Museum is a wonderful place for children to learn by doing. They have interactive exhibits that are meant for children 2-10 years old. Some of the areas are a farm, treehouse, bank, and puppet stage.
The children’s museum started out as exhibits at Woodland Mall in 1993. (One of the exhibits, Bubbles, is still at the museum!) In 1997, the children’s museum moved into its current building on Sheldon Avenue. Pricing for admittance to The Grand Rapids Children’s Museum is $9 and free for children less than a year old.
